Meet Us

Jan Mitchell
Director
I have been involved in estate agency for all of my working life. I have nearly forty years of experience as a valuer, office manager working for both local firms and corporate organisations. During that time, I’ve worked in Gateshead, Newcastle, County Durham, Rowlands Gill, Whickham and Gosforth, making many new friends along the way.
In 2015, having noticed a changing market I decided to set up my own business providing a locally based personal service to clients who wish to buy or sell property. My son John also joined the business and after a lot of hard work and long hours we have built our reputation and have now become one of the most successful estate agents in the Tyneside, Durham and Northumberland areas.
As we became more successful I am delighted to have recently welcomed Jordan Beeley into what is still very much a family business. The three of us, together with support staff will continue to provide a premier professional service to our clients.
When not working, I like to spend time relaxing in the garden, walking my dogs in the nearby countryside and hopefully, when things get better enjoying a few holidays in the sun.

My interest in estate agency began at an early age. Initially I assisted a friend working in the industry with the IT side of completing floor plans. Whilst at University I progressed to having a summer job as a part-time accompanied viewer.
Although my intention was to move to London, I soon became passionate about working within estate agency and stayed in the Northeast. Initially I was employed by a large corporate agent and after progressing through the ranks, together with Jordan, we began running their head office branch. Fortunately, we were both guided by a mentor who was the best in the business at the time.
Seeking a new challenge, for the next three years I worked for a city centre agent in Newcastle. Here I gained experience selling city centre apartments, dealing with clients and developers with large property portfolios and increasing my knowledge of properties and the market within Newcastle and surrounding areas.
By this time 2015, Jan had just launched her own business, Jan Mitchell Properties. Unfortunately, three months into the first year of trading Jan was given some worrying health news. In order to make sure she had a business to return too, I left my city centre role so that she could concentrate on recovery. Once the first difficult year was out of the way Jan and I grew the business from being a small hybrid agent to becoming a leading agent in Derwent Valley. We went on to break house price records and set new standards in Whickham, Burnopfield and Rowlands Gill. Even in those early years we also gained national recognition and awards.
The business progressed and we now service clients in Gateshead, County Durham and Newcastle. Every day is different and exciting, and it is an honour to work with such a unique, talented and closely knit team. In my spare time I am a bit of a foodie and with the Ouseburn development being on my doorstep, this is my go-to place. I enjoy surfing off Longsands beach and I have a sad obsession with Newcastle United. You will always find me in the Gallowgate end of St James Park for home games.

My interest in property started from an early age, being the son of an architect, I grew up in and around many projects throughout my childhood, this then led me to complete a Building Surveying degree at Northumbria University which enabled me to further my interest and knowledge of property.
I have now been in estate agency for some 10 years, working for both corporate and independent firms, where I have covered a variation of roles from Valuer to Branch Manager across the North East including areas such as Newcastle, Gosforth, Heaton, Whitley Bay, Tynemouth, Gateshead and Durham to name a few.
In my spare time I would love to say I have many interesting hobbies however I’m afraid to say it’s really just property related in renovation and rental, if you want to talk about the match then Johns your man!
After being close friends with the Mitchell family for many years I recently joined forces (and practically the family!) as a third partner to further the good work they have done to date and ultimately enable us to take on more clients, so keen for you to get in touch and let us explain how we can help!

Originally from Belfast, Northern Ireland, I relocated to Newcastle for university and quickly fell in love with this vibrant city. After 12 years of living here, I proudly consider myself an honorary Geordie.
Over the course of my ten-year career in estate agency, I have gained valuable experience working with both corporate agencies and smaller independent firms. This background has allowed me to recognize the advantages of a family-run agency like Jan Mitchell Properties, where we can offer a distinctly personalised service with high quality personalised marketing.
My professional journey has taken me across various areas in Newcastle, including the West End, Low Fell, and Gosforth. I have developed an appreciation for a diverse range of property types, having owned both Tyneside flats and new-build houses. My firsthand experience as both a buyer and seller enables me to understand and empathize with clients from both perspectives.
Beginning my career as a sales negotiator, I advanced to the role of branch manager. What I find most fulfilling about the property industry is being the welcoming face that clients encounter, starting from the initial valuation appointment through to negotiating offers and guiding them through the sales process until completion day. I value the opportunity to accompany clients on this journey, experiencing the excitement and challenges along the way.
I have been fortunate to have previously worked alongside many talented members of the JMP team. Their expertise and dedication have always impressed me and I am thrilled to officially join the JMP family.
In recent years, I have taken some time off to focus on my two children. When I’m not at work, I embrace my role as a dedicated ‘boy mum,’ often found cheering on my sons from the sidelines during their football matches.

Having grown up in a family where my father was contracting, we moved around a lot and as a result, I have always had a keen interest in estate agency. At the age of 19, I had a grand total of zero experience but was determined to find a job in the industry.
I knew being so young I would be starting right from the very bottom but, rather than be perturbed by this, I was excited at the prospect of learning everything there was to know. I started out working in Tynemouth as a Sales Negotiator and can honestly say I instantly loved my job. I spent my first few years building up invaluable knowledge and experience before being asked if I would step up and take on the role of Branch Manager. I accepted and within a year I was managing not one but two of the companies leading branches at the Coast.
As I was eating, sleeping, and breathing buying and selling properties, I made it my mission to get myself on the property ladder, buying my first tiny little 1 bedroom flat in North Shields when I was 21. This turned out to be a great little investment as I went on to rent it out. Since then, I have bought and sold a number of properties. I believe that all of this contributes to the estate agent I am today, as I personally have been the buyer, the seller, the tenant, and the landlord (not to mention a 9-month stint living with family in between purchases) so feel I can genuinely empathise and resonate with all of our clients regardless of their circumstances.
When the opportunity arose to work at Jan Mitchell Properties I was delighted. I absolutely love working for such a wonderful family-run business and am genuinely so proud to be part of such a knowledgeable, friendly, and hard-working team! When I'm not working you can generally find me with my hair in a messy bun chasing my two little boys around.

After finishing my first year at college at 16, I decided to work in a local estate agent over the summer holidays, what was meant to be 6 weeks ended up in me being still in the property market 15 years later!
I have a real passion for property and can’t see myself doing anything else. From working as an apprentice to working my way up to management level, I’ve continued to develop my career and training. I’ve worked with many branches around the northeast gaining experience and knowledge in many areas.
Having recently started at Jan Mitchell Properties, I feel it’s a real honour to work here. Everybody works very hard and there is a really great team spirit. I’m excited to see what the future holds for me within Jan Mitchell. It’s a very exciting time. In my spare time, you’ll find me running around after my two children who are 1 and 7, and attending Newcastle United matches on the weekends when I can.

Valuer
I've always had a strong interest in estate agency, though I initially wasn't sure of the best path to start. I began my working life in retail, thinking it would be a good way to build up my sales ability and customer service skills. When the opportunity arose to join a well-established local independent estate agency, I seized it. Starting as a sales and lettings negotiator in Gosforth, I progressed to become a valuer, covering a large area of Newcastle from Cramlington to Heaton. I'm proud to say I helped the agent become a dominant market leader in the area.
I truly love what I do and am passionate about continuing in the field for the rest of my working life. When the chance came to join Jan Mitchell Properties, their values and service were a perfect fit for me and saw it as a chance to further advance my career.
In my downtime, I enjoy spending time with my wife, our little girl Bella, and our soft, lazy dog Kingsley. Our favourite activity is taking a nice stroll along the Derwent Walk with a pit stop at The Red Kite Pub. When I'm not with my family, you'll find me supporting my beloved Gateshead FC.
